Bridlewood won the annual Lemonade Cup contest in efforts to raise the most for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

All signs point to a cure for cystic fibrosis (CF): The median age has climbed so that people diagnosed are living into their 30s, 40s and beyond; and Kalydeco™, a CF drug that treats the underlying cause, not just the symptoms, just entered Phase 2 to reach even more affected people. The Lemonade Pals, a grassroots effort that has raised more than $15,850 over seven years, made their own signs this past weekend to raise awareness and donations.

North Texas children and parent helpers held five lemonade stands in Highland Village’s Castlewood neighborhood; Highland Village’s Viking Run; Flower Mound’s Bridlewood and Wellington neighborhoods; and the Lantana neighborhood. In addition, the Flower Mound Youth Football Association and Trietsch Memorial UMC Trade Day supported CF with stands the following weekend. Together, the kids brought in $2,575.

The Lake Cities communities have generously supported this effort, by kids and for kids, to impact the lives of neighbors living with CF, a life-threatening disease that attacks the lungs and digestive system. CF affects about 30,000 children and young adults. Last fall, the Lemonade Pals earned a Proclamation from the State of Texas and Representative Tan Parker’s office for their contribution. The volunteers plan to continue their tradition each spring.

“Thank you to all of you who donated at the Bridlewood, Wellington, Castlewood, Lantana and the Highland Village Fun Run locations,” says Flower Mound resident and Wellington volunteer Meredith Butterfield. “I got involved with this cause with the hope of encouraging others to do the same. Personally knowing several families that are affected by this awful disease has opened my eyes and my heart."

The Lemonade Pals are children of volunteers with the North Texas Wine Opener, which to date has raised $1.7 million for the CFF. The 9th annual gala event will feature a seated dinner prepared by acclaimed chef Morris Salerno of The Grotto; a selection of fine wine generously supplied by Newton Vineyard; and a silent and live auction led by GDP Auctioneer Services. The Derby theme for NTWO is "Raise for the 65 Roses," which incorporates the elegance and tradition of the greatest two minutes in sports.
