FLOWER MOUND, Texas- November 5, 2016- Christian Youth Theater (CYT) Dallas-Fort Worth announced today that their Winter 2017 production will be Into The Woods JR. Auditions previously scheduled for November 17, 2016 for The Legend of Pocahontas will now be used to cast Into the Woods JR., published by Music Theatre International.
“We were excited to produce the Legend of Pocahontas, but the casting requirements were too taxing for our first production,” said Tyler Hutchinson, Artistic Director for CYT Dallas-Fort Worth. “We hope to revisit Pocahontas in the future, but we feel that MTI’s Into the Woods JR. is a better fit for our students and community right now.”
According to MTIshows.com, Into The Woods JR. is “A new take on Stephen Sondheim’s and James Lapine’s groundbreaking musical fairytale about wishes and the choices we make.” It features a cast of about twenty, but CYT-DFW is prepared to provide opportunity for everyone who auditions. Children ages 8-18 who are enrolled in a CYT class at the Flower Mound or Frisco campuses are invited to audition. Weekly classes begin November 8.
“Into the Woods has always been on my bucket list,” said show director Taryn Cain. She has been in several productions of Into the Woods as an actress, and recently directed local youth productions of Fiddler on the Roof, Elf JR., and Shrek the Musical JR. “Wait until you see the show. It will be unlike any Into the Woods anyone has seen before.”
To prepare its students and prospective auditionees, CYT-DFW is offering a Free Audition Workshop on November 12, 5 p.m., at 440 Parker Square Road, Flower Mound, TX 75028. The event is open to the public. The artistic team will work on audition songs, teach choreography, and give tips on “landing the role.”
Christian Youth Theater Dallas-Fort Worth opened in Flower Mound in 2015, but its parent organization, the non-profit Christian Youth Theater (CYT) was founded in San Diego in 1981. CYT has grown to be the largest youth theater in the nation, serving thousands of students a year through its nationwide non-profit affiliates.
Into the Woods Jr. will be performed February 10-18 at the MCL Grand in Lewisville, TX. Local business are invited to support the arts in their community as production sponsors and advertisers.
